Create Equity at Home if You Expect it in the Workplace
Gender-based roles are no longer a thing.
Traditionally in most households, men took care of the outside and the women took care of the inside of the home.
Up until a few years ago, most women were working part-time or not at all. Regardless of how much they were working, the expectations were still there. Home-cooked meals daily, clean and organized home, primary care of the children, let dad rest when he gets home, don’t bother dad after he rests.
Today more women are in the workforce than ever before.
Have expectations changed for them at home? Not really
According to several news sources, women are still doing more at home even if they are the primary breadwinners.
How do women expect equity at work if they don’t have it at home?
The boundaries women set at home have everything to do with how they are at work. If women continue to take over most of the household duties, there will be no equity in the workplace.
It starts at home.
If you are a single mom, get the kids to help no matter what age. Swap favors with family and friends to get you some respite. If the other parent is involved, ask for a 50/50 custody agreement. You need the time to…
