First Summer I’m Not Working a 9–5 Since I Was a Teenager
This is the plan.
No Summer Camps
For the first time ever, I am not looking for a full-day summer program. I am not going back and forth with my kids about where they want to go and trying to convince them to choose the program that I want.
They are not going to be home all summer because that means I will have to entertain them daily. I don’t have that in me.
My kids are going to a week-long summer camp on Karate skills. I have always wanted them to do that. I managed to convince them because they have a friend going. That one costs money, but not too bad. They are also signed up for a program at their school in mid-summer. This program is free and 3 weeks long. They will do a lot of fun activities.
So they will be home with me for about 6 1/2 weeks. We have some vacations planned during that time. But we will mostly be home exploring our city and hanging out with our friends. We will also visit their grandparents.
Not a Lazy Summer
I value education and learning. I am not going to let my kids go through summer in chill mode. They will be doing some academic stuff.
They will be doing a summer reading challenge. They will also complete two grade-level transition books.
