We have taken three small group trips this year. One with my sisters, their families, and my parents. The others with friends.

On the family trip, we stayed in a resort where we each had our separate rooms, but we spent the days together. There were about 13 of us on this trip.

On the other trips, we shared space. On one we shared a campground and the other a house. There were 10 people on each of these trips since we each had families of 5.

There are 4 things that stood out to me that are different from when traveling with just my family.

  1. My kids were entertained 24–7

• They played with their friends and cousins all-day

• They rarely asked me for anything. For some reason, they are more self-sufficient when others are around.

2. I didn’t come home feeling exhausted

  • I had more breaks than when we travel alone
  • We shared cooking and cleaning duties
  • Having other adults to talk to leaves you feeling relaxed
